The Evolution of Women’s Education in the Transition from the Age of Ignorance to the Prophetic Era: A Reassessment of Opportunities, Methods, and Challenges

| Using a historical method and a comparative-analytical approach based on library sources, the research explores both the limitations and transformations in women’s access to knowledge during this period. The findings indicate that in the pre-Islamic era women’s education was largely limited, informal, and strongly dependent on social class and tribal position. Nevertheless, there were notable examples of women who attained certain forms of knowledge and skills, including poets, merchants, and physicians. With the Prophet’s mission, a new perspective toward knowledge and education emerged, creating broader opportunities for women’s learning. As a result, women gradually participated in scientific, religious, and cultural spheres. Despite these developments, persistent cultural traditions and socioeconomic constraints continued to pose serious obstacles. Overall, education in the Prophetic era became a key factor in improving women’s social status and expanding their participation in the emerging Islamic society. |
