Abstract: Belief in astrology has a long history and has continued to exist as a social legacy in the modern and post-modern eras. Astrology played an important role in social, political, and cultural relations in the Safavid era; therefore, the stance of jurists (the main implementers of the Safavid religious government project) towards belief in it is worth considering. The present study aims to explain the position of astrology in the social and political structure of the Safavid era and analyze the approach of jurists towards it. The research method is descriptive-analytical and relies on library sources. The findings show that astrology in this era, beyond a marginal belief, acted as an effective variable in governmental, social, and cultural relations and was one of the hidden factors in the decline of the Safavid government. Also, Analysis of jurisprudential views also shows that in the face of astrology, they have adopted a dual position, including opposition and conditional agreement, in order to preserve religious foundations.
