Abstract:   (18 Views)
The noble verse, “The Prophet has a greater claim over the believers than their own selves” (Al-Ahzab: 6), is a foundational Qur’anic verse explaining the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) leadership and authority in believers’ lives. Previous studies have mainly addressed this authority through exegetical, theological, and historical approaches, with less attention to its psychological and sociological implications as a lived social reality.
This study adopts an interdisciplinary analytical approach to examine the social and psychological implications of prophetic authority at micro, meso, and macro levels of Islamic society. The research is descriptive–analytical, employing qualitative content analysis, drawing from Shiʿi and Sunni exegetical sources alongside selected theories from the sociology and psychology of religion.
Findings indicate that the Prophet’s authority, as symbolic capital and an elevated relational model, at the micro level leads to identity coherence and internalized religiosity. At the meso level, through secure attachment and paternal emotional bonds, it strengthens group cohesion and social learning. At the macro level, by transforming tribal loyalties into faith-based ones, it establishes legitimate authority and social capital foundations.

The study concludes that this verse offers capacity for an integrated model of collective religious life, providing theoretical basis for social studies of the Qur’an.
