Abstract:   (12 Views)
Ibn Taymiyyah and Al-Khanji are prominent Sunni scholars in the Islamic world. Both thinkers lived in a period when the kings were practically at the top of power. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method, examines the views of Ibn Taymiyyah and Al-Khonji on the role and position of the king/imam and the scholars in the political power structure.
The results show that Ibn Taymiyyah and Roozbahan Khonji's views on the position of the Imam or king at the top of the pyramid of political power have common and different aspects. Among the common aspects of their views, we can mention the necessity of appointing a ruler as a religious obligation and the impermissibility of rebellion against the ruler.
Both thinkers used titles such as Imam, Caliph, and king for the ruler of their time. In the minds of both thinkers, scholars are the legitimizers of government.
Among the differences between the two thinkers' views, one can point out the more prominent role of scholars in the structure of political power from the perspective of Khonji. There is also a serious difference of opinion between the two thinkers in the discussion of the characteristics of an Imam or a Sultan.
