Abstract:   (11 Views)
Despite the unfavorable climatic conditions of the city of Mecca, its spatial and religious capacities have always been considered. The present study aims to examine the physical appearance and spatial structure of the city of Mecca before Islam, from the era of Qusay bin Kilab to the end of the reign of Abdullah bin Zubair, using a descriptive-analytical approach, and through it to represent the urban form of Mecca in its evolution from a village to a city. The findings of the research show that the advent of Islam brought about a profound transformation in the spatial and cultural structure of Mecca, such that some previous manifestations were eliminated, many were modified, and some were confirmed. Among the most important changes is the removal of idolatrous symbols from the urban space, which led to the redefinition of Mecca's sacred identity and the formation of a monotheistic atmosphere in the city center. This study shows that the spatial changes in Mecca after the advent of Islam were not only a reflection of cultural and religious changes, but also played an important role in reshaping the urban landscape and strengthening the sacred position of the Kaaba.
