Abstract:   (604 Views)
The present study examines Shia scholars' position regarding the governments of the Safavid era to the early Qajar dynasty. The question is what effect did the rise and fall of governments from the Safavid period to the Naserid Qajar era have on the relations between the government and Shia scholars, and what factors influenced the reaction of the parties? In other words, what effect did the change of governments have on the position and role of Shia scholars, especially from the perspective of relations with the Afghan, Afshari, and Zandiyeh rulers until the early Qajar era?  This question is important since Shia scholars enjoying the fanatical Shia government of Safavids, suddenly encountered a period of Sunnism during which they were more or less neglected. The study is conducted using a historical explanatory method. It is based on the assumption that no uniform and homogeneous relations exist between scholars and the Safavid, Afghan, Afshari, Zandiyeh, and Qajar governments since the process is subject to historical conditions and requirements, considerations, and contemporary issues. The research findings show that such changing relations were formed with the arrival of Shiite scholars in Iran, resulting from their “cooperation” with the Safavid government. Subsequently, more conflicting and serious approaches emerged among them under several factors.
