Islam first entered China in the 7th century AD during the Ottoman Caliphate. Muslim merchants traveled to China via the Silk Road and settled in the country. With the establishment of the republican government, power fell into the hands of nationalists, and this idea of nationalism and love of country led to a clear view of Islamic movements, and they were able to play a major role in China's victories. However, with the establishment of the communist government from the Mao Revolution to the end of the Cultural Revolution, many restrictions were placed on religious activities, many mosques were closed, and religious activities were severely restricted. During the reform and opening-up period from the 1980s onwards, with the start of reform policies, the Chinese government reduced religious restrictions and reactivated religious centers. Unfortunately, in recent years, Chinese Muslims have faced new challenges, including increased monitoring of religious activities in the Xinjiang region due to the spread of Salafism, which caused social and political tensions in society.
